Join novelist and humanities scholar Alison Moore and singer/songwriter Phil Lancaster in their presentation, called “Riders of the Orphan Train” at Blinn College Monday, May 21st from 7 PM – 8 PM. The presentation will describe the fate of the 250,000 orphans and unwanted children who were put on trains in New York between 1854 and 1929 and sent all over the USA, including Texas, to be given away. Many became part of families in the Schulenburg, Flatonia, La Grange and Weimar communities. The presentation is comprised of original music, archival photographs, and interviews with surviving orphan train riders. There will also be a dramatic recitation of Moore’s forthcoming historical novel about the orphan trains.
